On November 15 (yes still November) we went down to Colorado Springs for the Air Force/BYU game. We were worried about the weather because it had snowed earlier, but the day turned out great. We BBQed with about 20 friends (thankfully someone had a grill similar to ours so that we could borrow the insert for the propane tank that we forgot in our camping box), and headed up to the stadium just in time to see the parachuters bring the flag in to the stadium.
We were able to get some great seats because Trav was prior military. I think we sat 3 rows from the field on the 40 yard line. Everyone kept saying how great they were and what was even better was that they were only $5 per ticket. When we got to our seats a man that was in charge of the halftime events came down into our section and began looking for a man that was supposed to participate in something at halftime. The guy wasn't there and considering the fact that Trav was the only one sporting AF gear he asked if he would like to come down and kick a field goal to win a truck. Of course he said yes, and we all got excited.
Trav had prior kicking experience but that was a while ago (high school...YIKES)so he wasn't going out there not knowing how to do it. About 3 minutes prior to half time Shane yells out, "I need to go potty! It's an emergency! (ya right)" So we sprinted up the stairs and made it back just in time to see Trav lining up for the kick; a 40 YARD FIELD GOAL. Mind you he had only about 10 minutes to prepare and usually the people that win get called a week in advance and can practice a little. We were so excited and his kick was straight and looked good but fell somewhere in the endzone. To this day he beats himself up over it; especially when we drive by a 2009 dodge ram (it is a NICE truck).
We had alot of fun at the game even though AF lost. Good things came from Trav going out on the field though. Some of his previous co-workers from Virginia and Alaska found us and came by to say hello. It was great to reconnect with people that we haven't seen in years.
