The dentist never has held great memories for me, but after talking to our pediatrician I figured I needed to get them in. (And also Trav's insistence if we were paying for dental insurance we needed to use it.) Our pediatrician referred a great pediatric dentist so after everything settled down in July we headed there. I seriously wish that they had these sort of places when I was a kid. It was very kid friendly! They offer nitrous oxide gas for free so the kids don't have to feel the shots if they have cavities, they don't shove the bite-wing film in their mouth (everything is done with a small electronic probe), they have TV's in the ceiling, etc.
I thought that I would schedule both boys at the same time and then have Shane go first so that he could be a good example to Jace. When the time arrived Shane was terrified. The hygenist looked at Jace and asked him if he wanted to go. He looked at her and said, "O.k. that's a great idea." He was a great sport. They were able to do it all without his squirming out of control (shocking), and I think he only bit the assisant once. His favorite part was getting to pick out the flavor of the polishing paste (chocolate- Shane had bubble gum).
After seeing that Jace was brave Shane thought that it was o.k. and jumped into the chair. He did everything they asked him to and I think that he will be more relaxed the next time we go. Jace had no cavities, but Shane has a little one that we have to go back for. Shane has been on an inhaler for his "reactive airway disease" for about 2 years now and the dentist thinks that it may have attibuted to his cavity. He has been so anxious about the whole cavity thing though. After we got home he asked me a thousand times that day if I could take the cavity out. Every now and again he will ask me when we are going back so that he can get it out. We will see how he handles that :).

Good luck. Ryan had a nightmare experience when he was 3 at a pediatric dentist and finally 4 years later had a good experience at our regular dentist. He actually hopes to get cavities now because he loved the gas so much!
It is so nice that your boys had a positive experience at the dentist. It is too bad they didn't have kid friendly dentist years ago. I think we've all been scarred. I have never taken my boys to the dentist yet. I've been putting it off and I know they should have gone by now. I'm sure there are good pediatric dentists here in Vegas.
I'm loving that dentist! I'll have to look for one of those out here when Megan gets old enough...
Those pictures are classic! We miss you guys and were just talking the other night that we need to go out with you guys for my birthday in a couple of weeks or plan something definitely. Now that summer is over and most traveling is done we can pick a date and get together. I love seeing pics of the boys they are the cutest ever...well besides my boys of course! HA HA! We will give you guys a call and get together sometime soon. Have a great one!
That is so funny! Kids crack me up as patients. I had the cutest one today that was an awesome patient. I am glad that they had a good experience and am glad that I dont have to work on him to "take out" his cavity. Gas is the best invention. It is prbably good we dont have it at our office I would be back with it all day! HAHAHA! Also I am, glad you all are so afraid of my profession! We are nice you know!
Am I the only one that's amazed Jace didn't have a cavity?!? I mean, with the sweet tooth that kid has, I figured he'd be the one with the cavity. :)
Riley and I practiced quite a bit before he had his first appointment. First he got to be the patient, and then the dentist. Dentist Riley said my teeth were perfect. Too bad the real dentist disagreed. :) Anyway, everything went great for him. I'm glad your boys had a good experience, too!
Funny to see that Shane was the more hesitant one and had to go after his younger bro. Is he usually like that?
I think the "shades" (a.k.a. the protective eye ware) are the coolest! I don't look forward to Kaia's first dental appointment. Yikes!
Yea for going to the dentist!!! What great pictures to remember their trip. Your boys are getting so big.
Sorry it's been a while, I've been a blog-slacker all summer. Sure looks like you and your family had a great summer, tonz of fun pictures. Brett is getting so big--I can't believe our boys are almost going to be one...where did the year go? Sure wish we lived closer to play some games, we are dying. Take care.
